Walking down the aisles on a grass lawn. The most elegant and simple wedding.

With the relaxation of the wedding regulations in Hong Kong, couples can literally get married anywhere they like (provided that they can find a lawyer who can accomodate thier wishes!). So more and more couples are going for the more novel options, and doing it in the great outdoor is becoming very popular.

There are many good points for tying the knot in the open air. The light is better, the air is fresher, floral decorations will look more grand, and photographs will pick up colours better. Yet there are quite a few things you have to consider before making this bold move.

1. Weather. Make sure some shaded areas are provided.
Will it rain or will it shine. It’s a bit of a dilemma. If it is too sunny and hot then the guests will be hidingin the shade. If it is raining then the guests will be hiding too! So make sure that there will be areas for people, such as kids and elderly, who would prefer shades.
Flowerwise, make sure that the flowers that you choose will last through the ceremony, as some varieties such as tulips loathe strong sunshine. Ask your florists for advice.

2. Timing. Day and Night.

This is crucial for flowers and decorations. Some flowers, such as garden roses will look great outdoor but can only last for a short while, so the time factor has to be considered. Or if you are considering doing it after sunset, a candle lit reception cocktail is also a great idea. the glow of candles can make a space seems much larger than it is. But then of course, safety is paramount and don’t leave flames unattended.

3. Seasons.

The seasons have a sigificant impact on the lights for your wedding, as the sun shines at different angles at different time of the year. So you might want some richer colours and metallics for autumn and winter to create warmth, and lighter colours for springtime. If handled well, a seasonal themed wedding can be a very romantic event.
