In the last few seasons we have seen a gradual change in the trend of floral designs from the ultra harsh and modern designs back to more feminine and romantic compositions. This trend of the New romantics is particularly influenced by interior and fashion designs, where every restuarant and shop now is busy getting rid of stainless steel and piling on chinz and florals.
In the floral department, we can see a growing popularity for special roses varieties which were not florist roses before. Garden roses or their look-a-likes are getting more popular. As for florist roses, the ‘illusion’ rose and ‘hocus pocus’ rose are two of my favourites. Spectacular in their own right, they are surprisingly versatile when combined with other flowers.

As for style and shapes of the New romantics, we can see the return of the cascade flowing style as well as the simple hand-tied. Gone are the over-the-top structures, and the flowers themselves back on centre stage.

There is a twist to this new trend though, and that is the use of other vairety of garden plants. Celosias foliage, sweetpeas, raspberries are all used to complete the look.
